proposal for Unit 6  Section one - influence, research, sources and ideas The initial starting point for this project was my large scale self portrait that was composed in late 2018. With the success of the piece, I wanted to reimagine it in an even more realistic way. I started by going back to what I knew best, Chuck Close and his large scale, Acrylic, hyper realistic portraits. I paired this with the numerous eye studies of celebrities I had done for Unit 1. These studies were in pen which offered simple and effective mark making, whilst allowing for an easy build up in tonal value. However, neither of these mediums would be the one I chose for the final major. Unit 5 & 6 Statement  (all referenced work is on my main blog which I will link at the bottom) Red is to be deleted  This statement will discuss the progress of my artwork, concepts of my final major and timescale discussions of my proposed final major. The review of my own practices and the influence of other artists will be integrated throughout the statement, hopefully giving it a more dynamic structure. The one, key influence for all of my work during this foundation year has to be Chuck Close. His work was the reason I started wanting to scale up my portraits to a size abstractly larger than my previous and I knew from the start that a self portrait similar to his would be my starting point for my final major. Whilst this could be seen as closed minded and a linear way of thinking but the other units during this year have given me the opportunity to work in other areas and not be all absorbed by one piece of work. The key influence for all of my work during this foundation year has to be Chuck Close. Close was the reason I started to scale up my portraits to a size substantially larger than my previous. I knew from the start that a self portrait similar to his would be my starting point for my final major. My decision to set out and finalise my ideas for a final major at the start of the year was purely down to how comfortable I feel about drawing portraits. The part that would push me out of my comfort zone however, would be the size and detail required to achieve hyperrealism.
